Starship Takeaway Delivery Robot

Avatar Disruptive HQ | 15/09/2016

“In the next three to four years, you or me will be able to order something online and have it delivered within 15-30 minutes by using an autonomous delivery robot” were the words of Henry Harris-Burland when Disruptive Tech visited Starship’s HQ in London to see the infamous delivery robots for ourselves.

Before we followed the bot to the street outside their Greenwich office, Harris-Burland interestingly stated that nobody tends to ‘notice’ the autonomous robot when they’ve done tests – perhaps a little surprising then when the first people we encountered stopped us and rather loudly exclaimed ‘what is that!’

There may be a lot of common sense questions raised when thinking of the practicalities of the device’s function as a delivery bot (like what stops anyone forcing the lid open and stealing the contents?), but the team at Starship are fully behind the project being a success – the technology is certainly ready it just depends on whether we as consumers are willing to introduce robotics into how we get food delivered now.
