Feeling Fireworks – Disney Research Use Tactile Effects To Help Blind People

Disney has announced that it is creating a way for the blind to “feel” fireworks. The animation and entertainment giant claims this new technology, which is imaginatively named ‘Feeling Fireworks’, will allow blind or partially sighted people to have a unique tactile experience.

So how does it work? Well, direct-able water jets spray water pulses onto the rear of a flexible screen, with different nozzles for different firework effects. This produces tactile effects on the front of the screen, which you can then feel with your hands.
