How Health Technology is Tackling Sensitive Men’s Health Issues

US based company Roman is an online medical portal that will diagnose and prescribe treatment for erectile dysfunction. So essentially it’s very simple - you answer a series of questions, have your information reviewed by one of the company's licensed physicians and - if it’s appropriate - you get a prescription shipped to the pharmacy of your choice in discreet packaging within 24 hours.

A new app has been created in the US to help tackle sensitive health issues in men.

Our host and former Medic, Dr Anjelee Perera, discusses erectile dysfunction. A fairly common condition – it’s experienced by 30 percent of men in their thirties, 40 percent in their forties -but it just isn’t something people talk about much, and it’s often such a taboo that many men even have difficulty talking to doctors about it.

But in the US, a service called Roman is helping to address that. Roman is an online medical portal that will diagnose and prescribe treatment for erectile dysfunction. You answer a series of questions using the Roman App, have your information reviewed by one of the company’s licensed physicians and – if it’s appropriate – you get a prescription shipped to the pharmacy of your choice in discreet packaging within 24 hours. This is another in a series of recent technologies which aid in situations people don’t always feel comfortable with.

It was founded by 26-year-old CEO, Zachariah Reitano, experienced ED himself, as a side effect of medication that he was taking for a heart condition.

Roman recognise that ED can be an overall indicator for a man’s state of health – it can happen due to a range of serious conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and depression.

Dr Perera argues that one downside may be an ‘easy get out’ for people, and they may not bother to see a doctor and get properly checked out, but Roman also say that they encourage users to see a doctor by offering discounts if they see a doctor and send in their results.
